Hi, I teach in a program for kids who are diagnosed low-cog.

The average working level in the room is Grade 2, give or take.

I'm trying to think of a fun author study we can do this spring. We've already written our own stories using visual prompts, so I was thinking of an author we can study for reading strategies and then use their books as a pattern/template for our own writing.

Any suggestions?

What grade are the students in?
When I taught 2nd grade I did an author study of Kevin Henkes books and used some of the texts as mentor texts for writer's workshop. He has written so many great books, and even has written some novels that you could use as a read aloud novel if you wanted.
