Hi I teach fourth grade language arts and social studies. I don't teach them reading. I did up until a two year ago. The other teacher does. We do the Book it program at our school. Last year I had hardly anyone who turned in their calendar. The other teacher just did not do it who teaches reading. In fact only one student did for October to March. I a looking for a way to get more students to participate. I also tried to do a book review last year and many did not read a book after telling me they had one. I don't really want to keep list of who is reading what. Any suggestions ?

Our high school National Honor Society throws a book it carnival with booths, games, prizes and ice cream for the kids that complete the book it requirements of 5 out of the 6 months participation. It's gone over very well for the last 10 years!

At the end of the school year we give out awards and Book it is one of them. If you read for the whole time you get the Read your Heart out. So it is a big deal. We don't give the coupons out unless you have the calendar signed by student and parent.

We just send home the coupon for students who have completed their home reading. some families appreciate the coupons, others never go. It's free to participate so why not?

BTW, I have my Middle School helpers complete the info because that is one downside, filling out the information for each child!

I didn't even realize Pizza Hut was still doing Book It. That was always something extra for our kids....nothing that teachers kept up with. Is there a new program called Book It that I'm not aware of?
