I recently accepted a position teaching 6th grade ELAR in my preferred Texas district. I am a fairly new teacher, (3 years teaching) who has only taught 4th grade ELAR. I'm not sure where to start? How should I set up my room? What type of behavior management should I use? Should I use Reading and Writing workshops? Stations? Guided Reading? State testing strategies for Reading? Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

That's a great reference! I have a structured curriculum, but I would love to sneak in some of her writing and reading lessons. I already have a lot of those mentor texts. Thanks for posting!

This blog has a video on how a ELA middle school teacher structures her 50 minute reading period.
