Two books that I have read with my class are : Shh! we’re writing the Constitution, and We The Kids. The first one is on the longer side and I have read it in short chunks. The second one is very short and specifically addresses the preamble.

"We the Kids" puts the preamble into understandable terms, if you haven't used it yet. I scanned all of the picture pages and sized them for my SMART Notebook file. As I read the story, I showed the pictures on the SMART Board. We discussed vocab and interpretations. (This was done in my 4th grade class.)

You could show them this Schoolhouse Rock Video, too:

If you choose that book, there’s a teacher on tpt whose stuff I’ve used. She has material to go with the book. She is also a PT member. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/...ts-Quiz-331045

I really like Shhh! We're Writing the Constitution. Lots of good information, and it adds a human interest layer that makes it all come alive.

Jean Fritz's books are excellent--not just the Shhh! one.

I am looking for a short read aloud book to use with a 5th grade class to introduce a unit about the Constitution. Does anyone have any suggestions?
