You'd be assigned a mentor, even with all your experience.

Perhaps your school has a math coach that could meet with you?

Will you be teaching in a testing grade/subject? Id look at any release tests that may be online and the standards youll be responsible for. Welcome back!

Shoot if you've taught for 25 years, even if you took a break for 5 years, it's not like you're a newbie. I suspect the structure of the class won't have changed from before; the homework might be something you ask about at the school (as some schools have different expectations). The only thing I'd ask about is the curriculum. Is there something being used at the school that all teachers are expected to use or do you have to come up with it on your own? Are you going to be working in the same state that you did previously or in a new one? That will dictate whether or not you need to review the standards.

I'm a retired math teacher of 25 years. I have missed teaching and have been out of the loop for 6 years. I have recently chosen to teach again. I just took a 5th grade math position and I feel like I'm starting all over. I taught 25 years in one district at mostly 5-8 grade levels with much success in student growth and state testing scores.
I don't know where to start!! I feel like I've never been in a classroom before!!
My classes will be 90 minute blocks. When I left I gave all my resources of 25 years away thinking I would never use them again. Boy was that a mistake!!!
What should I ask before I start? I don't even know where to begin considering I've always been at the same district. I knew curriculum, discipline policies, etc.....
Now, its all new and I feel lost. Any ideas on where to start? Discipline, curriculum, structure, homework, etc...???
