farenheit and celcius lesson plans/activities

I am looking for lessons and activities to teach seventh grade students about temperature and conversions. I want them to explore temperature and notice patterns in the differences. How can I get my students to make observations that leads then to create rules about the two types scales instead of simply stating the formula? I am also interested in guiding questions and short video clips. Thanks for your help in advance.

A Day's Wait

Hemingway's story "A Day's Wait" is a good way to introduce the concept. A little boy thinks he is going to die because he is thinking in Celsius while his dad is using a Fahrenheit thermometer. I once created a lesson about converting temperatures by writing word problems based on other stories we had read, and I used this story as the introduction.

This is a nice idea. I found a web page with the story and was able to read and print it. The link is tuantran.org/teaching/ADaysWait.pdf.

Thank you! Jasmin
