Break Contract?

Hi, I recently signed a contract with my current school district, however, I will be transferring to another school in the district (which doesn't have a good rep). However, today I received a request for an interview at a school I would really love to teach at. Should I tell them I've already accepted a contract and decline the interview or go through with it? What are the consequences for breaking a contract for the next school year?

Do you have a copy of your contract?

That should outline any consequences for breaking it. I've heard of some states allowing teachers out of signed contracts within a certain amount of time but that doesn't hold true everywhere. Your best bet would be to find out from your district if you can break the contract without any consequences.

Try talking to your supervisor and explaining, maybe they will let you out of your contract

I'm not in any way skilled at this, but I say go for it as a person who has been on the wrong side of interviews several times. Your happiness matters more than their business decisions and it's not like you're leaving in the middle of the year.
