pencil holders

I'm looking for inexpensive pencil holders or "cans" to put in plastic totes in my writing center. I found some a few years ago in the Target dollar section, but haven't seen them this year. The section of the tote it would go in is about 3"x3" and 3" deep. I was thinking probably something round like a can, but a box like shape would work too. I'm willing to make something if it is not too complicated. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! I just started reading "No More 'I'm Done'" and I love it!

Would those tall-ish rectangular containers that are made to freeze fruit/veggies/etc. work? The ones I use in my totes are inexpensive and come in sets of 4 or 6. I use mine for markers and colored pencils.

How about

plastic cups? They have them at the dollar store or freds...possibly walmart... for only $1 or $2, and can be decorated or not. Many dollar stores carry them in blue but last year I found some in lime green and teal. I was told wal-mart has red but I didn't check this year.

Beer cups!

The red plastic kind that are used for "beer pong" are great-they hold up for quite awhile (double them), and when they get old you can replace them!

Tetley Tea canisters. I wrap mine in scrapbook paper and label them for organization.
