Vindictive Students
I am the 7th grade math teacher at my school, however the 7th grade science teacher that I work with has two math intervention classes, and so has opportunity to talk with the students about the importance of their upcoming district math test.

This math test plays a part in the teacher evaluations (pay for performance and our effectiveness label), and is also used to group students into classes for 8th grade and will factor into their applications for high schools.

Apparently a handful of students have told the science teacher that they are planning on intentionally bombing the test, because they know that it affects my rating/pay. She is suggesting that the test could be given to the grade level in their science class next week instead of my math class, as some of those students told her that they might be willing to try harder if they take the test in her class.

Am I wrong for not wanting to cave to the student's threats on this?

I'm the math teacher, I'm the one that's been busting my butt to try and teach them math this year, and since the entire grade level affects me as opposed to the two intervention classes that affect the science teacher, I'm more comfortable giving the test in my classroom.

And honestly, if they want to shoot themselves in the foot in order to try and get back at me for being a strict/mean teacher, then so be it. Besides, I'm leaving for a different district at the end of the year anyway.

I think the principal should be contacting parents about this threat.

I know this is a very late reply, but I have to look at this situation in awe.

Let me get this straight: These students are "protesting" you by trying to fail?

Not the brightest bulbs, these kids. They do realize they'll just have to repeat 7th grade math over the summer, right?

Lol. Talk about a way to enjoy a summer. LOL

I wish them "luck" in their absurd protest.

Maybe not repeat
We don't get our state scores until the start of the next school year.

I have seen groups of kids deliberately decide to fail a particular class, or make a teacher's life hell, or finished the state test in 7 minutes.

"I have seen groups of kids deliberately decide to fail a particular class, or make a teacher's life hell, or finished the state test in 7 minutes."

They're foolish kids. They're hurting themselves too.

The ultimate "revenge" would be to just pass the test so they never have to see the teacher again if they hate him so much.

What I want to know is: where are the parents???
