How do you provide inclusion services on a subject you do not know?
I provide inclusion for math and ELA and depending on the lesson being taught that day, I could be lost totally on understanding the subject. Anyone ever have this happen?

I'm a retired regular ed and previously sp.ed teacher. My inclusion teacher gave me a very quick form to fill out each Thursday asking for the topics, chapters, pages, etc. for the following week. I could fill it out in 2 min and would give it to her on Friday. Some teachers just gave the inclusion teacher a copy of their lesson plans instead. She also had access to the teacher's editions for ELA and Math online. That would allow you to study up on topics you're not familiar with. Be careful though, Some teachers may resent the extra work that entails.

Sometimes I do get the lesson plans along with the teacher edition but sometimes the teacher will make up their own questions for the students that aren't in the teacher edition. There was a question the teacher asked the students and I searched high and low in the teacher edition and the question was not there. I do recognize that everyone's teaching style is different and they may or may not use the teacher edition questions/answers. I so wanted to ask where did that particular question(s) come from but I didn't.

Like others said, get a copy of lesson plans, copy of teacher editions, answer keys.
I had a math teacher who refused to give me an answer key. I could find the answer but I was there to check on students, not do the math problems while they waited for help. I also have a math license.
Some teachers think they are somehow smarter than special ed teachers. Some donít do lesson plans. It helps if your administration backs you up. Lesson plans a week in advance help more than just before class too. Then you can plan out accommodations/modifications.
Iíve taught gen ed too so I havenít had a problem not knowing about a subject-yes it surprises some.
