Asking you student teachers for help

Iím getting a student teacher soon. I want to give her something that outlines my classroom like a binder of info. Things to include?

So far I have..
Class schedule including specials
Teachersí names
Important dates
Going to outline key curriculum concepts my kids will be learning while sheís there
A class roster (possibly with pictures)
A little descriptive walk-thru my room
Classroom rules
Behavior system
Describe reading groups
Talk about tests/homework
I have a couple special content programs in my room so Iíll explain those.
Active shooter/emergency information - where to go for drills, etc.

Anything else Iím missing? Sheís already been in my building for 8 weeks so she knows some about the school.

Thanks!

I'm a current student teacher. I can say that this list is amazing!! I did not receive this amount of information without asking for it! I think you hit all the major points. Depending on the university, they may need more specific documents that their supervisor asks for. I would see if she need something specific from you :)

Your expectations is definitely a good one to include, and even people to go to for help/who they should avoid. For example, which admin will back her if she needs something?

Even my suggestions though could just be talked about, I think you have a great list! My mentor teacher didn't have anything prepared and it was only till Florida that I asked about drills, not having even thought about it before then.

That is very kind of you!

What a nice collection of information to put together for your student teacher! I can't think of anything else besides your expectations for their role(s) and suggestions on working with students. Should they just observe at first, how can they help, should they interact with students during independent/group work times, what are some ways to support student learning, etc.. I hope my mentor teacher does this for me!

Great list! Here are some suggestions (though you may have already done this)
  • procedure for absent notification
  • arrival and departure expectations
  • when/what meetings are to be attended
  • background information and individual needs of students
  • what technologies are used and how to opperate them
