I need idea for a new Committee.

As a paraprofessional, I was asked to create a committee that will help children with special needs and their families. Can anyone help me? Please.:) Thank You.

I probably am not going to list anything you already don't know, but just in case:

--include all stakeholders. This depends on the purpose of your committee but representatives may include parents, possibly students, teachers, special ed coordinator for your building, counselors/behavior specialists, PT/OT and speech therapists, administrators and even school board members.

--think about the purpose of your committee. Advocate? Provide families with resources for learning? Provide a committee outreach opportunities such as coffee talks, family fun night that includes a story reading, family craft, or game.

Parent Engagement Committee.. As a sped teacher I think a great committee would be one that focuses on connecting families of students with disabilites to encourage play dates and parent support. Another suggestion would be for the committee to have expert panels and FAQ's/workshops.

Some ideas for workshops are... tips for parents to help with homework, dealing with XYZ at home, transitions, social stigma.

I'm sorry...help the children and their families with what? I would love to help if you could provide me with some more specifics.

I wrote a program during my grad studies (social work not teaching) for special needs students and families.
