What is your Learning Looking Like?
I am wondering how everyone is doing and what is your current situation?

We are in an A/B model. So we meet with kids every other day and send packets and virtual stuff on "Learn at Home" days.

I feel like I am working two jobs...

It will be Mid-February before we look at being back whole group.

What is your "classroom" like?

We have been virtual all year so far. The district wants to get the kids back to school for hybrid soon, at least K/1 and eventually K-5. It doesn't sound like H.S. will be returning this year, and the jury is still out for M.S. I don't want to return before I get vaccinated. That date has been pushed back due to there not actually being the reserves that were promised by the federal government.

We'll see, we could be back by mid-February, or sometime in March.
The original plan was for K/1 to go to school M, T, Th, & F while 2-K do the A/B model, with everyone staying home on Wednesday. The district may do a.m./p.m. for all of K-5 instead, which I would much prefer. I don't want these poor kids to be tied to their desks all day.

We were in person from September 1 (they pushed the student start date back, it was supposed to be mid-August) until Halloween. Fully remote in November and December, and as of last week we're now fully in person again. I could be wrong, but I don't see us going fully remote ever again. There were lots of mental gymnastics and changing of rubrics/guidelines to "prove" that covid doesn't spread in schools and that it doesn't matter what community numbers look like.

My district took hybrid totally off the table way back in the summer when decisions were originally being made. They felt it would be the worst of both worlds. They also felt it may be even more unsafe due to kids "widening their circles" (and then exposing the rest of us at school) based on where they were spending time on the at-home days for hybrid (i.e. going to daycare, going to a relative's house, etc. would be exposing them to more people throughout the week than if they just came to school every day). Personally I'm very glad. It does seem like the worst of both worlds to me, plus it's asking teachers to do two jobs.

We were remote from the start of the year until November. Went back in person 2 1/2 weeks before winter break and have been in person since. I have all of my kids every day, but our day is shortened to 8:15-11:45 (we usually go 8-2:30). K-2 is all in person every day, with one class at each grade level as a fully remote class, and 3-6 is on an a/b schedule. I am so very thankful I don't have to do hybrid! It seems HORRIBLE.

I only have 15 kids because that's all we could fit in my tiny room and try to be almost 6 ft apart. Kids are at desks most of the day, although we still do a lot of moving around. It's definitely not ideal, and I miss my "real" classroom every single day, but it's so much better than remote. I was about ready to give up!

My Classroom
My classroom is 100% normal and has been all along. We've had very little covid in my country so we never did the remote learning thing or masks. We just wash our hands a little more than we might otherwise & have smaller parent events. I am incredibly thankful!

I retired in 2019 and started volunteering in the fall of 2019. Of course, all of that stopped in 2020. I continue to keep in touch with my former co-workers. This is what I know:
All K-5 students are f2f since September 2020. No visitors, no volunteers are allowed on campus. Few students are out sick with Covid. Many teachers have to quarantined because of exposure.
Classrooms are cleaned daily and lots of hand washing. Teachers can only buddy up with one other class. Those classes are considered a “bubble”. All k students use their own set of manipulative.

Middle school were on hybrid schedule in the fall. HS were virtual. Since November, all now are schools are f2f. Covid numbers are rising.

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 12:00 AM.
