First year teacher and grade 4!

Hello,

I just graduated with my bachelor's (not in education) and got a job teaching in 4th grade. I am lost! I don't even know where to begin with lesson planning or anything. I am so excited, and nervous at the same time. This is a career change for me, I resigned as a preschool director to begin my dream of teaching. I know I will be fine, I am a fast learner and dedicated to my work and truly dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children. But I am LOST. Any suggestions will be so helpful. Thank you in advance!

Welcome to Fourth!

Hopefully you'll have a mentor assigned to you. Do you have a team that you'll be working with?

For now to get ready, maybe just familiarize yourself with the standards.
Think about your management style. Check if the school has a whole school discipline plan.
Gather books or at least titles for read alouds.

Check out other posts here on PT too. There's much knowledge here:)
Keep posting here and reading PT!

Congratulations!

KB...Congratulations on a new endeavor. This year I will be teaching gifted 4th grade too. Last year, I taught 2nd grade. I have been looking for resources on www.teacherspayteachers.com.

Does your district have a reading series? I have been looking for novels for my kids to read.

For math, I am looking for math vocabulary for the kids to know. I picked one on www.teacherspayteachers.com.

Congrats!

Congrats to you!

Are you self contained or departmentalized? Hopefully you'll get a mentor! If you do, be sure to use them! If you have a team, have your questions ready, and write down their answers to refer back to. You'll need to find out what your school's policy is on lesson plans. Some principals want your plans a week in advance...some don't ever look at them. Get to know your standards! Meet the secretary and the custodian. You will want a good rapport with both of them! I hope this helps a little! Best wishes and CONGRATS!!! <!--shootingstars-->

a semi-local district started in-service teacher days today, and this afternoon posted a 4th grade position. I'm applying for it tonight... I love 4th Grade
