Book Whisperer-# of books to read
 

I am currently reading The Book Whisperer. I teach 1/2. Should I give them a goal for a number of books to read? They vary so greatly in length that I'm not sure what would be fair. And at their level, I just want to make sure they read both fiction and nonfiction. Any thoughts?

100 Club
 

I taught 1/2 for the past two years and wanted to do something after reading "The Book Whisperer" too. I developed "The 100 Club". It's optional and an "extra". Here's a link to my blog post about it:

Reading Logs
 

So it's been a year... how did it go? Did the response logs work with 1/2 graders? I can see the second graders but am wondering how the logs work with first graders.

I was disappointed with the participation. I made them optional. I think 6 or7 out of 18 did The log. I might have to go back to a traditional log for how and use the challenge as an extra. I gave books to those who met the challenge.
