February art ideas

Any fun, low prep ideas? Preferably not just a craft or directed drawing, but something artsy. I suddenly have a completely free day on Friday and would love to do some art, but don't have a lot of time to prep anything.

Art thsi week

This week we've been learning about fireworks. We're doing golf ball painting using fluro paints to represent what we have learned. The kids pick two colors and roll golf balls around on their paper. Then the next day we will collage using ribbon, tinsel, glitter glue, confetti and pipe cleaners to represent the various patterns fireworks make. The combination of fluro colors and shiny looks really beautiful. It's low prep for me because the materials are all left overs from other activities. I do the actual painting part during free play, calling two kids at a time to use the golf balls.

Not particularly February related though!

I have done the cherry blossom art . Drop some brown paint and have the kids blow several different ways to make the tree. Do the pink blossoms with printing pink with a qtip.

I love the ideas so far!

If you have the budget for small canvases from the craft store and some large heart stickers, you could have them mask off hearts with the stickers, paint in Valentine's Day colors, then peel off the stickers when dry.

Here's an example from a different holiday -
