Do you use XTRAMATH.com?
 

On an earlier post, many replied to use this site for my basic fact intervention groups. Right now I am working with the 2nd graders who need help with subtraction. We started using the xtramath site, but I cannot find a way to get my group to subtraction.

Is the site only for addition? Is there a place on the teacher tools to get to subtraction, or do the kids have to pass all addition to get to subtraction?

Go into the help menu and look under student activities- there it tells you how to adjust their levels. I would say though that mastering their + facts will help them with the - facts.

My student's love the site. For a couple of students it has helped them and well worth the time spent.

My class does xtramath every day. They are working on their multiplication facts, but it is the same concept. I cannot believe how much it has helped them with their facts.

You can change it.
 

Make sure you are logged in under "Teacher".
Click on your name.
Click on "Reports".
Click on a student's name.
Click on "Change Program".

Some thrive others get frustrated
 

Some students thrive on it while others get frustrated. One student quickly worked his way through all four operations. I just had to go in and change his program. After mastering all four operations, he wanted to keep doing it. I told him all I could do was change the time from three to two seconds and he was up for the challenge. Unfortunately, he wanted to start with division but it took him back to addition. I think I might be able to go in and do division only.

I like it and so do my little friends! Even though not all of them have "mastered" the facts at 100%, I can definitely tell the difference in their computation skills. I teach 2nd grade in an urban district, low SES, and not a lot of parental help. This is the first year I have used it and it is the first year that I notice that my students are NOT using their fingers to add!!! We are doing addition with regrouping and they get through the problems in no time at all.

In the past, I have used Rocket Math, which I really liked. However, it used lots and lots of paper, took time out of the math lesson, had to be monitored and well organized, and some students never took it seriously. XtraMath integrates technology which most kids like and is totally independently run. Once I enter the names all I have to do is check their progress. Plus, kids can work on it at home. (most of mine do not have internet access, though)
