Has anyone done one of these with a 3rd grader before in Reading/Writing? I have 1 very high student and want to end the year with something like this for him.

However...I have no idea where to begin...does anyone has a lesson/format/etc. they would be willing to share? Tips, too?

Nonfiction placemat
 

Make it Real by Linda Hoyt has a nonfiction placemat that I have used before. Students research a topic of their choice and then create a placemat/full page spread on their topic utilizing paragraphs, text features, whatever you or they choose. If you can't get your hands on the book and are interested, let me know, and I can send you some examples.
