Unemployment
Are any of you currently on Unemployment and your district is going back either full or hybrid? We still don't know what is happening with our district but I am wondering if they do have in person subs how that would work? If there are jobs out there but you aren't specifically called for a job, is that considered turning down a job? I don't know what I think about going back. I want to do this right but also what is best for me.
|
One of my districts is going back virtually, but they have blocked us from Aesop. They sent a survey asking if we would sub virtually, so I have no idea what’s going on. The communication has been minimal.
|
It seems weird to me that people are including "the economy" into the equation. What does that have to do with the best way to handle the virus?
|
I think...
In Illinois, anyway, that if you sub but earn less than your usual amount, you can still collect unemployment. It may be reduced, though. Mines so piddley that if we don’t get extra, I may not go through the hassle of certifying.
|
Just so you guys know, I just received my unemployment and it has absolutely no stimulus money in it. In California, anyway.
|
Edd
There will continue to be no stimulus money until the different branches of government i.e. Congress and the President can come to a decision. I am not holding my breath.
|
Bodhimoms,
My unemployment did not have anything extra either. I make just a little under 100 per week on unemployment which is nothing really. Plus i havnt heard from my district about subbing. I was thinking maybe I could get the extra unemployment of 300 or 400 per week. But according to the guidelines of the executive order, you have to make at least $100 per week to qualify...ugh. |
I only get $80/week.
|
I really hope they pass the additional stimulus amount soon. The President issued an executive order to continue the stimulus payment of a lower amount, but that still hasn't been released. Neither has the 2nd Federal stimulus check.
|
Rather depressing to see EDD checks go from $1924 to $1324 and now to $724.
Since the remaining balance shows benefits to run out in a couple weeks, I have my doubts as to the extra 13 weeks we are supposed to get. |
I wonder if we can file for an extension or apply again, or something.
|
There should be a tab/prompt on the UI page where you file your weekly claim to apply for the regular extension benefits/PEUC. My state makes you fill out a short form that basically asks the same questions from the original UI form. They can’t deny you the thirteen weeks if you were on regular UI or PUA. This was from the cares act. You can’t apply for it until your initial claim is at zero, but every state might have different methods.
For the 300 a month from the Executive order, your state has to apply to it and it could still take months to get. Most states haven’t applied for it.It is projected to only last for three to five weeks anyway. There hasn’t been any second stimulus check passed either, so don’t count on that. |
Thanks
Thanks for the update Fractured.
|
Yes, thank you. This is my first time and I didn't even know I could extend.
|
Yes, thank you Fractured. My unemployment will run out in about 4 weeks. Although it's not much but I'm thankful it's something. I'm hoping they pass another unemployment stimulus plan. I will keep my fingers crossed.
By any chance, does anyone know if the extension amount is the amount we get paid per week on unemployment or is it the PUA amount which is 300/week if california applies for it.... |

Jakeh,
I looked it up after I read your post. Yes ca was just approved to receive the extra unemployment. It's just too bad you have to make at least $100/ week on unemployment to qualify for the extra $300. I'm just a little short of $100. :( |
I believe some states also have their own version of extending UI for those that run out of their initial claim, but you would have to go through the 13 week extension first.
It seems like some people end up not having a delay in benefits when applying for the 13 weeks, and some have to call in and talk to a specialist. I am just going on the feedback I get from UI Facebook groups I am in. I think Congress will have to pass something as the eviction moratorium needs to be extended. I am not expecting any actual money until early October at the earliest, because I assume a package will get done in the first two weeks of Sept and it will take up to a month to transfer that money to the states UI offices. |
