bone-in turkey in crock pot

am currently defrosting a frozen bone-in turkey breast (sale: $.88/pound!) for later this week.

DH says: make sure to put it in the right way.

i grimace, thinking he's talking story and say: right.

DH: no, i mean it; you have to put the breast bone up.

he does not like being challenged when i say: what is the science behind that?

so i head to the internet, but find nothing from googling.

is he right? if so, why?

FYI--it sounds right; i think most of the meat is at the bottom of the turkey; it's hotter where it touches the pot...i just want to know if it won't cook correctly the other way.

My mom cooks it with the meatiest part down. It's not as pretty, but it keeps it moist. It will cook fine either way, though.

I put it in however it will fit the best and I can get the lid on the crockpot. No real thought process, just cramming it in. ;)

Mine usually goes in sideways because it fits better.

Itís not quite the same, but I make whole chickens in my instant pot, and the recipe always reads to put the breast side up.
