Looking for help with STEM curriculum
Hi, all ~
I am currently a middle school literacy specialist, but I am losing my job on Friday due to budget issues in my district. I am searching high and low for a job for September, and happened upon an opening for a STEM curriculum mentor. In all ways except one, I very much qualify for the position, but unfortunately, the one way that I don't is in my knowledge of STEM lessons. I taught in the elementary school for 9 years, so I've done math, science, health.... I'm not completely inexperienced. I was hoping that someone on here might be able to direct me to a site, a resource, SOMETHING that will give me a little insight into the basics of STEM curriculum. Can anyone help?? Thanks SO much!!

There is a yahoo group called middleschoolscience. Search it and I think you will find what you are looking for.

I haven't taught STEM or STEAM but
I think the inquiry based approach would work best. In other words, you would design the lesson and provide the materials but the students would do their own inquiry based work to come up with their results. American students need so much more of this kind of work (along with strong book-based knowledge) but they need a chance to DO and TRY. This also takes away from us as teachers having to have all the "answers."
Also, have you visited PINTEREST? They have lots of science and math ideas for all grade levels (be sure to look for the ones that would work as an inquiry-based approach).
