I've been recognized as a "teacher who

has made a difference," by a local high school! A former student, now an "academically outstanding" senior in high school, chose me, her fourth grade teacher, for this honor. I had been feeling very discouraged and then this letter arrived at school today. It means so much to me! I am invited to a banquet but don't know more than that. And I thought all this time that once students left my classroom at the end of the year I quickly faded into obscurity!

Congratulations!

...And that is what teaching is ALL about! What an exciting honor, way to go!

Now, I would trade my T.O.Y. award for this honor in a heartbeat! You need to reflect on how many others you have inspired as well. This student is just the tip of the iceberg. Enjoy your moment with your former student!

Not the only one

I would be willing to bet this is not the only student you'd had that feels this way! I'm glad that your recognition came at a time that you were feeling discouraged, I'll bet it means all the more because of that.

Congratulations on a job well done!<!--sing-->

Congratulations!!!!

Last year I received an invite to Sylvan Learning Center's Teacher Appreciation Day. In the envelope was a letter written by a student about what I meant to him. I was FLOORED by who it was. Sometimes you just never know...

Congratulations!

What an honor! I agree with a PP. This probably is not the only student that feels this way. And, it came at a good time for you.

wow!

That's an amazing honor to have touched a student so profoundly that she looks back to YOU as the person who made such an incredible difference in her life. I'm in awe!

How wonderful! I got goosebumps reading your post. I am sure it made your day! :)

great!

That's a really meaningful award! Congratulations!

A few years ago, my former highschool had 3 long-time teachers retiring. They had en evening event where those teachers could each invite some former students to come back for the evening. The teachers were up on stage and some of their colleagues spoke about them, but then we former students were given the chance to say how these teachers had impacted their education and their lives. It was incredible! Since then, I've thought how wondeful it would be if every teacher could have something like that. Sounds like you're getting your own version!:D
