books to promote listening skills
I'm looking for suggestions of picture books that promote good listening skills or require good listening skills. All suggestions welcome.

I recommend
a book titled Can You Hear It?. I bought it from Barnes and Noble. It is filled with copies of famous art including sculpture as well as paintings. The book includes a CD. The author selected a classical tune to symbolize each piece of art. I play the music for my students and have them draw what they think might be going on. We first discuss how music for movies is written to help set the tone of the plot. The students listen carefully and have to visualize. We discuss their various ideas and share drawings and then look at the matching art in the book and discuss some more. They love this activity!

Thought of another one
Everybody Needs a Rock- I tell them to listen carefully as I read the book and remember the rules for choosing a rock. Then we go on a rock hunt around the "perimeter" of the school yard. Then they write about their rock. They include why they selected this one and a description. Then we share them and show the rocks.

Listening Books
One of my favorites is:
Listen Buddy by Helen Lester about a bunny who does not listen and what happens when he doesn't.

Me too!
Listen Buddy is always on my back to school list. In a discussion afterwards, we talk about the importance of being good listeners.
