Layers of the Earth
I'm teaching fourth grade for the first time and we are to study Layers of the Earth next week and I'm looking for some songs or fun activities for this.
Any ideas? |
edible model
my class made a model last year--I don't remember where I got the idea but maybe you could google it--a "rice krispie treat" sphere formed around a spice drop and covered with magic shell--kids loved it!

If you can get clay from your art room, you can make a model of the earth, with each layer a different color. Then, slice the sphere and voila! You can see the layers. Here you go:

YouTube Video (30 seconds)
I taught 3rd grade last year and when we studied the layers of the earth, I found the following YouTube vid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa8LZ...eature=related It is a short song. My district recently blocked access to YouTube, but before they implemented that rule I was able to show this short video. The kids loved it and they would hum it all the time. Hope this helps! |
We did an activity where you cut an apple and it's a model of the earth(skin, white part, seeds)....it was from our old science book
Another thing I would have them do is draw and color and label a diagram of the earth's layers. |
Layers of the Earth video
Loved it. Thanks for sharing.
