Compare and contrast stories

Looking for some good titles for comparing and contrasting stories. I teach 2nd grade. I've used "cloudy with a chance of meatballs" and "pickles to pittsburg", but wanted some new ideas. I've heard there are other versions of the Jan Brett story "The Mitten" to compare??

Comparing and Contrasting with Cinderella

There are a lot of versions of Cinderella from around the world. Its a story that most your students will be familiar with so they will have a basic understanding plus the cultural aspect could be a great tie with social studies.
A few titles: Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters
The Korean Cinderella
Fair, Brown and Trembling
The Irish Cinderlad
The Persian Cinderella

Its generally easy to find these stories in the fairy tale section of the library, too.

Cinder Edna

Cinder Edna is also a great story for comparing and contrasting. It's another version of Cinderella as well. You can compare the two different Cinderella's in the story or the two different princes. It''s great and the kids will love a new twist to the fairy tale!

What about some of the books in the Alexander series...like Alexander and the Very Bad Horrible Day? I've used books by Demi, but not sure if they would be too hard for second grade.
