Will being a certified teacher hinder my chances of becoming a para
I was called for a permanent para position. I haven't been hired officially yet but the principal asked for proof of my para certificate. The proof is a list of my certifications. I am certified para, special Ed teacher, and gen Ed teacher. I gave this to the principal almost a week ago. Do you think she saw that I am also a teacher and maybe she doesn't want someone who is a teacher to also be a para? Or am I being paranoid? It seems like being a sub has made me second guess everything.

The districts around me LOVE to have licensed teachers as paras. 5 of the last 7 hired were licensed teachers. If there were more available to hire all 7 would be licensed teachers.

Good luck! Have you heard about the position yet?

Thank you for your advice. I asked the secretary on Friday if I'm getting hired and she said "everything is looking good" which to me doesn't mean anything. I want to hear that I'm hired and nothing else. When do you think I should inquire about the position again? I don't want to seem too pushy but I was called and offered the job before I ever subbed there. I thought I was only going to sub one or two days then get immediately hired.

The system I work for will hire certified teachers into para positions. It is a plus.
