How accurate is the AR/Star Reading Level test?

How accurate do you think the Star reading level test is? It is hard to know when the first 9 weeks a student IRL says 6.0 and then the 2nd test says 4.8 and the 3rd test says 5.5. What's going on with this? It isn't just one or two students whose reading levels fluctuate. I'm not sure what to think.

I too would like to know...

I think that if a student starts off with a high school like say I have one reading at 12.9 and then in Jan. we retest and the test begins at 12.9 level questions then, it goes down when they miss one it drops down a level, so then it looks like all my higher readers go down and I can't get my principal to understand I don't know if it works that way. If anyone can tell us I would love to know how this works too.

At my school, a student's reading level has fluctuated by the day. Literally, we had a student retake the test the next day, and there was a huge gap (like three grade levels) between them. For this reason, I don't think it's super-valid.
