Check expiration dates

I grabbed some frozen lasagna at the supermarket to find that it expired May 2019

Ewww. I always try to check the expiration dates, but sometimes they are so hard to find!

I would call the store

hopefully they will send you a refund by mail. It never hurts to ask.

I recommend taking a pic of the expiration date, item code, and your receipt then emailing it to the manufacturer. Donít worry if you donít still have itójust explain. I can almost guarantee youíll get an apology and a coupon for a freebie or 2.

OTOH, I should probably worry more about expiration dates. I do look at best by dates, but Iím frugal and I prefer my motherís method of deciding if it ďsmells funny.Ē Iím staying home and using foods I have: each day this week Iíve had a can of expired tuna in my lunch salad (the date was October 2019). It was delicious and Iím still here.:D

smell test

I agree with amiga's smell test, but I also think expiration dates for frozen stuff is different than for canned goods. I made a pumpkin pie with a can of pumpkin date 12/18 and it was fine. I'm not sure about frozen lasagna because of freezer burn. It may still be OK but it may have a bit of a funky freezer taste to it.

I noticed that at the grocery store yesterday. A couple of things I picked up were way past their expiration date and that's why they were still there!

Always check vitamin expiration dates too. A couple months ago at CVS I found numerous expired vitamins when buying them for DH.
