6 + 1 trait writing for 3rd grade social studies/science
I am teaching 3rd grade Social Studies/Science this year and would like to incorporate the 6 traits writing into my plans. I am new to the writing program, so would appreciate any ideas on how to teach the concepts using Social Studies/Science concepts.

My next units for both are:
Social Studies: American Heroes - Paul Revere
Sciene: Rocks/Soil/Fossils

All that I have seen online are activities for using it with literacy books/fiction. Is it possible to use it for non-fiction? Should I introduce it with the literacy books then when they do their writing they incorporate what they learned to the nonfiction writing? I also have a lot of Sp.Ed students, so am I being unrealistic? Should I just stick with the basic writing process?

Thanks for any advice...

I just saw this. Did you try it? I am actually going from social studies to ELA this year, and I am going to try to keep up with social studies(eliminated in our fifth and sixth) by making sure it is all Core-ish. But we are using Six Traits, and that will take a chunk of time.
