Third Grade Extended Learning
Does anyone have any fun ideas for extended learning activities that are not simply extra practice? I like to provide challenging extended activities for students that complete their practice early without just giving them busy work. Any suggestions are welcome! :) Thank you!

Manipulatives
Maybe your students could do an activity using manipulatives that support the concepts they are learning. For example, if they are working with addition and subtraction concepts, they could use counting cubes to support their answers. To give them a challenge, they could only use a certain number of cubes and tell the students that they have to find different ways to solve the problem. I hope this helps! :)

ProblemBased Math Center
You could set up problembased centers with manipulatives and larger pieces of construction paper and markers. These centers could have a set of challenging reallife problembased questions that they should solve. These questions can be in a fishbowl for the students to grab a problem at random and glue to their paper. Using the problembased questions allows the students to use their knowledge of the concept while also using their creativity to find a solution.
Hope this helps!
Hand on activities
I totally understand your concern! I feel the same way when writing lesson plans and searching for activities students that finish early can do. I have noticed that giving out worksheets is the most simple solution for teachers yet completely unengaging for students. I would try introducing certain manipulatives that relate to the content being taught and go from there! Hope that helps a bit :)

Thank You
Thank you! These suggestions are great and I'll definitely use them!:)
