Any ideas on thanksgiving writing projects that aren't too babyish? Thanks!

Pretend you are a turkey on a turkey farm. How would you convince an interested buyer not to cook you for Thanksgiving Dinner?

I did this one once when we were learning adjectives:

Think of the BEST possible (Thanksgiving) meal. In detail, describe the food, the guests, and the setting.

Persuasive writing-Thanksgiving

4th grade- I teach persuasive writing around the month of November and conclude the unit with a persuasive essay/paragraph from the Turkey's point of view. My students are the turkey's and they are trying to convince people to eat ham instead of turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. When the writing project is complete, we share them with another 4th grade class. That 4th grade class then writes their own persuasive essay from the pig's point of view. They try to convince people to eat the Turkey, not the ham. When they are finished with their project, they share their writing pieces with our class. It is a fun activity related to the holiday but still focused on an important writing strategy.

You didn't include a grade level

I like to do acrostic poems with my students at holiday time. You can have them make a list of thanksgiving words. THen they choose one to make an acrostic poem. Each letter has to have a sentence that begins with the letter and that has to do with the original word.

My kids just did halloween acrostics and used words like halloween, spooky, haunted house, zombie, etc.

point of view

Write from the point of view of the turkey. Which will lead to a discussion on voice.
Good reading lesson as well.
