teaching beginning writing
I am a first grade teacher with children who are in the prewriting(random letters) stage. I need to get them to the "beginning and ending sounds" by the end of nine weeks. Doing research to accomplish this. any ideas?

Try power writing. Power writing is an organized way of writing that gets kids to actually start writing. It helps them stay focused on their topics and keeps them motivated to write. Do a google search on Power Writing and check it out. It's cool!

sounds
have you tried using newsboard to get there? If you did a big focus on modelling how to write words by just putting the beginning sounds and then a line for the rest of the word the kids should start copying you in their work. Show them how easy it is to do. There is heaps of research out there on this topic, and heaps to back up the use of newsboard as a tool.
