Piggyback on coddling
I was laughing just reading that thread below, because dd 15 and I were JUST talking about how helpless most of her soccer teammates are last night. They were all talking before practice and one girl was complaining about the matches her mom had set up for her to referee (like for her job, because she didn't want to be the center). This girl is a spoiled princess who calls her parents by their first names and treats them like crap. DD asked her if she's old enough to work, why her mom is making her schedule for her...LOLLOL. She plays with some very coddled girls. The real world is going to be an issue. I can see helping/advising your 16 year olds but not just doing everything for them.

So, girls can definitely be helpless too. <!--giggle-->

Yup! Lots of snowflakes coming along!

The good thing is when most go off to college they mature and become more independent.

I remember when my kids starting working at the pool, they had to teach their peers how to clean the toilet. Some had never done that. My kids were shocked and then were glad they weren't helpless :D
