comparing two digit numbers lesson

HI! I need a good lesson on Comparing Two-Digit Numbers. I might have my kids make actual greater than/less than signs that look like alligators before the lesson...I was thinking of having partners pull number cards and arranging their alligators the proper way and checking each other's work.

Are there any read alouds about this? Any other ideas? Thanks!

War

I just taught this lesson this week. To start with I divided up a deck of cards into A-10, with Aces equal to one. I have them work in pairs and play war with the greatest number winning first hand and the least winning second hand. It was a great start to comparing numbers. I love your aligator idea and might do the same.
