book boxes

Does anyone have an alternative idea to the magizine boxes for students individual book selections? I would like to find something a little more cost effective.

Book Bags

I just purchased multicolor cloth bags from Oriental Trading..48 bags for $31.50! Thought that was a pretty good price! The students will decorate it and make it their own on the first day of school. :)

Family Dollar has...

cute little bins and baskets for $1 each. They come in turquoise, lime, and hot pink.

Cereal Boxes

I have my students each bring in a cereal box. They cut it to look like a book holder you can buy, and then they decorate it however they choose. They are great! REALLY inexpensive and the kids love decorating them :)

Ice Bins

I've used ice bins for 5 years and they are holding up very well. They are around a dollar a piece and you should be able to find them at Wal Mart.

:)

I am having the same trouble. This is what I figured out so far:

I definitely want plastic. Cardboard breaks down too easily.
Lakeshore has them for $4.50 but free shipping over a certain amount.
Really Good Stuff has them for as low as $3.33 each-but no free shipping.

I'd like to invest in something I can use multiple years. Like the other post, I was considering ice boxes. I heard the dollar stores sometimes have magazine file holders. I have also heard Target should have them for about $2 each.

I am still searching for these as well. If I find something for less money than $3 each-I'll let you know!

Pinterest Idea

I have seen on pinterest lately to use duct tape to decorate boxes to make them look nicer in an office. You could have your students get a cereal box and then find duct tape they like to decorate.

I used gallon ziplock bags. I don't have to have the structure of the bins because they have wooden cubbyholes at the back of the room to place materials in. The bags will hold 3-4 books and a black marble composition notebook. Another benefit of the bags is that they fit inside student desks.

Thank you

What I decided to do is to use chair pockets instead. I went to home depot and bought canvas aprons for .77 for each childs chair. They will keep their books in their pockets. When they move their chair to join me at the reading table they will already have the books in tow! I'm excited to see how it works!
