How to on Close Reading - pls help!

Please help! I have never done this before and my school uses this in upper grades. So I understand the gist from finding an article - reading once with kids, then read in partners, and then individual...right? But when reading with kids the first time, do you ask questions at that time? Or is just reading without a pencil..then 2nd time is annotating? I am going to model this for a couple weeks before letting kids do alone..so wondering generally is 2nd read when I ask about it as we read? I cannot find a good "how to" with examples anywhere online!!

Some other ideas...

If you Google Shelly Rees or Jennifer Findley, they both have great ideas on their blogs. I've gotten a lot of resources from them, and Shelly has some videos on her educator Facebook page that will teach you how to do it.

Good luck!!

Oh, the book "Falling in Love with Close Reading" may help, too!
