EngageNY ELA grade 6

Hi All! Does anybody out there use engageny ELA for 6th grade. I find it terribly monotonous and, dare I say it - BORING. What ways have you fancied up this curriculum? How do you supplement it? Any and all ideas are appreciated :)

How free are you to stray from it? Can you add centers?

Thanks for your replay. We're pretty free ... I've considered centra, but would love some guidance. 27 6th graders aren't going to do word work 😂

You get what you pay for...

How much did you pay for it?

Ha...

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth!

I cannot tell you how much I despise this garbage. We've been doing it since basically it came "online." The first year we were supposed to do it with "fidelity." Hmm, so I should add all the misinformation and mistakes?

I find the vocabulary work bizarre. The nf texts boring and too hard for my students. The answers to many questions are just wrong. I do like how they do the text dependent questions, but I can't stand the lack of basic comprehension questions. Also, our activities are so strange. Don't get me started on the "assessments."

I am pretty much to the point where I skip the bizarre, insert my own information, and make my own answer keys. Although I am required to use this, I am basically going to redesign everything for next year. I even hate their worksheets. We get no lines to write on. Sometimes they give students a huge space for a small response and no space for a longer response. Some of the text is too small.

I do try to add pictures, videos and music that connect to the curriculum to break up some of the horrendous monotonous daily grind (i.e. the constant routine of reader's notes/reader's dictionaries, anchor charts, and those extremely long entry tasks.)
