Social Studies Textbook?

Hi. I'm looking for a new textbook for our 5th grade social studies curriculum. We've been using Build Our Nation (Houghton Mifflin) and the kids hate it. Anyone have any experience with a textbook that you/the students really love????

Or any ideas for curriculum/websites/lesson plans to use to supplement the textbook? I've used a few from the Zinn Education project and they were great. Looking for more like this....

Many thanks all. And happy summer to those out already!

textbook?

Do you have to have a textbook? Personally, I would rather use Teachers Pay Teachers and other ideas from online to teach. Then I can pick and choose exactly what I want and make it as engaging as possible.

Can you be a little more specific in the topics you teach in Social Studies? For example, we start with Native Americans chronologically through the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I've used parts of old curriculum History Alive that was in my classroom that the kids like. Not sure if it is around anymore. We have the same curriculum HM. I use it for finding information in text.
