While the sub should have

collected and graded papers, and kept a record, she hasn't been paid and won't be paid to do conferences or report cards, and it would be unfair to ask her to do them. I would use the grades she's...

And finally, $40,000 would be a low salary today...

And finally, $40,000 would be a low salary today out of college, but not for a high school graduate.

I can well understand

how exhausting this sounds to you. You're a mom of two, one of them 4 months old, and you're not getting enough sleep. School just started, and September is so busy. And now you will need to do...

She pulled it out.

I've never heard of anything like it before. So it is concerning.

Weird happening

Has this ever happened to you?

My daughter went out to walk the dog last night, and discovered that someone had inserted a single solar light into her lawn. Her husband is inclined to dismiss it,...

I wouldn't fault a parent either way

I can think of good reasons for keeping a child home, and good reasons for keeping them in.

This being 9/11, I remember wondering whether or not I should get my kids out of school and bring them...

If your freezer isn't full, fill up any extra space with bottles of water now. They'll freeze and preserve your food, and if they have time to melt, you can drink the water.

One of the teachers on my team

almost always got the high profile students: the teacher's kid, etc. I was glad. The parent always looking over your shoulder gets old really fast, and you're almost always walking on eggshells.

What about

Have you considered applying for FMLA leave? Or a leave of absence in lieu of resigning?

On the other hand, I would think that under the circumstances, there would be no difficulty with...

My experience

I think it takes longer to "total" a car than it does to arrange to have it fixed. Meanwhile, be looking for the title. You'll need that.

My daughter had her car sideswiped, in the shop, and...

So they can't fail?

I think would have a problem with that. I might either have to send the test home as a study guide and make them retake the test, or make them correct their errors for half credit.

That happened to my DD

a few weeks ago. She went into the labor, was in the hospital from 7am until almost midnight, 5 cm dialated, and was sent home for another two weeks! They finally induced her at almost 40 weeks and...

Lie, lie, lie

You should talk a lot about how much you are loving 2nd grade and how you're so glad the principal transferred you and what a big favor he did you.

A. It will stop the pitying glances.
B. It...

One advantage

to going from 4th to 2nd, is that you know where they will eventually need to be, and you can teach with the end in mind, so to speak. You may not yet know the 2nd grade curriculum, but you know...

I thought

she said the new job would have paid more.

Don't give up. You never know. Another opening may happen. The person who got the position may change their mind. A better opportunity might be...

It wouldn't bother me...

I would think it old-fashioned, but chalk it up to different styles for different people. I would just roll with it, and think no more about it. I don't see that there was any intent to control...

He has a reasonable concern

that it would be dangerous to room with boys. There are legal reasons why he should not room with teachers. The school has an obligation to come up with a solution, since they have rejected out of...

Isn't it all hydrogen water?

Two Hydrogens + 1 Oxygen = H20? <!--giggle-->

Not really trying to be a smart alec, exactly, because that sounds like a scam to me.

Every time she asks you to stay late, ask her if she can come in early. If she explains that she can't get there early because of obligations, tell her you know exactly how she feels.

I think Abbigail is right

First, why does everyone keep saying "six days" of babysitting. I'm assuming "the rest of the week" means she was asked to babysit M-F, or five days.

But I'm wondering if Mom has been grumbling...
