Not an ignorant question at all.

Most of the beaches here are not designated as either swimming beaches or fishing beaches. You can pretty much swim or fish anywhere you please on the beaches....

Gas, propane actually. We use ours 3-4 times a week, year round.

Since we use the grill so much and char contains known carcinogens, we also opt for gas because you can control the temperature...
