Spending on Students

Like some of you, I've spent way too many $$$ over the years on classroom materials. And I was okay with it, I truly enjoyed giving good things to my students. BUT, as soon as someone says teachers...

In school

School is working pretty well here in Aus, at least where I am. We use temperature guns to check temps each morning. We wash hands (whole class) 5-6 times a day. (it doesn't take as long as I...

Singing

Singing! I have little songs and rhymes for almost everything - right down to putting the lid on a whiteboard marker e.g. "Put the lid back on the marker..till...it...clicks. Click!"

If I want...

Devices

I think it's a fair point that in some areas many devices probably won't make it back. Schools in my area that have done that decided to think of it as an investment, even though they know not...

Kids

I think once kids get to a certain age, parents really can't have that control. But that's why those battles need to be won long before the teen years. Toddlers and teens can be difficult. But from...

KindyZoom

I am LOVING Zoom so far, but we've only been using it for 3 days. Given time, I'm sure the novelty will wear off ;)

Also....I taught my first kinder class on Zoom today. It was HILARIOUS. I had...

Feelings

We're still in school where I am, but if we do close I will genuinely miss this group because they are AMAZING + I truly feel bonded.

But, there are some classes where I wouldn't have minded a...

Covid

The craziest thing is that the PM says school is still open but the NSW premier has told parents not to send their kids. It feels like Mum and Dad are arguing + no one's sure who to listen to. They...

Covid + casuals

I just wanted to chime in and say I'm so sorry you're in this situation. I subbed for the first 3 years of my career and loved it. To me, it is as valid a career choice as permanent teaching. Here in...

Online learning

As a kinder teacher, online learning definitely would not be ideal. That said, my school is making plans + we will use skype & our online subscription websites if we need to. All of my kiddos this...

What?

I'm so confused about why 8th graders are 'always' asking you this. Neither as a student or a teacher have I come across a teenager napping during a test

Come to think of it, I've not...

Weird status

Wow. I can sorta see how the intent behind her words may be reasonable but it is poorly stated. Sometimes kids are indeed 'bad' because they have needs that have genuinely not been met. That doesn't...

Umm what do you think is happening to all that dirt when they're playing in it outside? They are 5. They roll on the ground, dig, climb trees, lick bugs. They're covered in outdoors long before they...

Parent visitors

In short, yes. We don't have the same security concerns in Aus so our schools are pretty accessible. We have an open door policy, and parents are always welcome in classrooms. We also aren't in a...

Mother jumping to conclusions. Cannot deal.

I love my school, my students and our families. I tell people often that I can't imagine a better place to work because our parent community is generally so supportive.

But....this year one...

Well, co-teaching isn't for me either. I had to co-teach for a while. I got on with my colleague ok but didn't like needing to constantly compromise. I was the newer, younger teacher so even though...

It wouldn't bother me honestly. Unless of course he was reading it so often that the actual work of running a school was being neglected. I rarely read for pleasure at school but I have on occasion...
