Great Book

This was one of the favorite books for my Reading Quiz Bowl team last year. I think it would make a great read-aloud.

End of Day

I totally agree with not letting everyone move at once. I have two-four helpers who pass out the bookbags. This keeps the movement down. It still isn't really quiet, but it's managable.

Book Suggestions

There are so many wonderful books for 4th graders.

For your son I would suggest the Diary of a Whimpy Kid series. He would probably enjoy the Ordinary Boy books, but they are longer and written...

Interactive Student Notebooks

I began using ISNs two years ago. It's quite a bit of work to set them up the first year, but well worth the effort.

We organize our Math and Science notebooks by unit. The information I give...

Organization (long)

I collect papers a bit differently. First I label file folders for Homework, Reading, Language, Math, Health, Science, and Social Studies. I make a general grid with student names and put one in...

I use interactive student notebooks for 3 subjects, so we go through the notebooks and glue.

I can't believe how many...

I do notebooks for Math, Science, and Reading, so I'm always on the lookout for composition books. (Why can't parents understand what a composition book is? Last year, I got some really interesting...

DD's Wedding Last October

I estimate DD's wedding last fall cost a little over $10,000.

I took the lead and paid for the location (cheap public building, but beautiful setting), dress, photographer, favors, decorations,...

Word Wall

We are required to have a word wall, which I don't find especially helpful in fourth grade. In primary grades I used the word wall as a spelling resource. I'm not sure what purpose...

I make my bed with the "bright side" down. My mother did it the opposite. It was a friend who taught me to put the decorated side down so that it would show when folded back. I love making my bed...

Another Menu

Here is the menu I've used the past two years. I'm pretty happy with it. Last year I had some issues with students making up their own activities.... Maybe it was the group!

I don't have personal experience with alarms, but bed-wetting runs in my family, so I have a great deal of empathy for those with this problem.

My DS had this problem briefly, but outgrew it by...
