Really!!

She went to the prince rather than telling you she didn't like something you did. She's got a real problem. I expect that will really bite her sooner or later.
And telling lies to boot!

I hope...

Yes!

I was mostly sleep deprived. I'd convinced myself that about 6 hours sleep was all I needed. Ha!!

Since throwing away my alarm clock (pulling it out only for special occasions)I sleep 8 - 9...

that' very pretty!

It's nice to have something to distract yourself and be creative at the same time. I also found it informative (and frustrating) to take the learner's stance and remember the feelings related to not...

good grief

holding a student's hand (especially when the child initiates) is not a restraint. That's just a very odd statement. And creates more of a problem for the para and teacher, which they apparently...

double benefit

Not only do you get your rest/recreation/appointments/business needs addressed, but your students see how necessary you are, and a sub gets some money. You may even get some appreciation when you...

I like the idea

Do Not Open This Book

A funny read a-loud that can fill a short time or lead into writing a parallel story such as Do Not Open This Journal, This Room, This Box, etc.

This one:...

P.s.

I meant to say, get seasonal employment elsewhere (retail comes to mind) until after Christmas vacation. And then go back to being available to sub.

You'll likely need some work over school...

Actually

no school district can "make" you stay where you don't want to be. That's kidnapping.

They can, of course, coerce by saying that if you want more work in the district, you need to stay. The truth...

interesting term

I'm wondering if it did reference substitute teacher. I was hired on a short term basis to coach students on test taking strategies before standardized tests were administered. It might refer to...

This might help

I've used both the Scholastic (came out in October 2001, right after 9/ll) and Bill Martin and liked them both. I've stolen freely from Red Skelton in further explaining, as well.

that's great!!

One additional thought, though. And I preface this with the fact that I haven't been a speech therapist since 1990, so may have very outdated info.

You know the employment possibilities in you...

for those on district plans

in retirement and are over 65, one thing to be aware of is that if you do not enter medicare during the three months before or three months after you turn 65 you will be charged an additional...

AP handled that badly

She should have spoken to you, not sent out a group email. Something to remember about her.

I'd give her the list of names AND the children's responses so she and the rest can read and decide for...

I retired a bit earlier than I wanted

but I'd have lost $500 a month in benefits if I didn't go out that year because of a change in legislation.

I kept subbing, served on some county committees, etc. to keep busy and useful. I...

Id be inclined

to tell the student his disagreement is with the superintendent and school board that supervises him, not you. Explain again that you are ordered not to record those assignments and must follow the...

A suggestion

that you may have heard before. Mention your energy slump to your doctor and see what information he/she may have to help.

But lots of people have a mid-afternoon energy drop; because teachers...

conversations? If the parent is telling you I hope you've made your behavior protocol about notifying parents very clear and maybe offered to give her a notice about her child her child's color...

as a Previous Post suggested you can see this as an opportunity to share additional activities to inspire academic writing. Not all children are engaged by the same activities and differing...

If the long term bonus in pay

isn't enough for the extra expectations, I'd start reminding the principal that you took the job expecting it to last about a month as most long terms do. If he needs a teacher for the rest of the...

I read your other post

I'm don't think the prep time dispute has any bearing on your case for resigning.

BEFORE you resign, check the laws of your state about teachers breaking contracts. Some states allow the...

I stopped this district wide

I went to a board meeting and explained that I'd asked my insurance agent about this. He said that the employee was accepting liability for my car and its contents on behalf of the district by...

Talking to the prince and suggesting that you be included as a team member BEFORE decisions about moving special needs students into your room take place.

I’d even contemplate using the words...

Wildflowerz

We’ve mostly used state park campgrounds. They charge $8 to make a reservation per campground but you can do a same day walk in and save that fee. But of course you take a chance on the camps being...
