Same here

I've given out progress reports and they knew which work was missing. Now, the last week, they suddenly want to retake quizzes, redo work, get makeup work, or get extra credit work. Sorry, no can...

No

I can't see how this is beneficial. You have to let the students out anyway, to go to the bathroom, get drinks, etc. And they need a few minutes break in between classes. How the heck does it...

Can you recommend best online Masters?

I am thinking about getting my Masters, and I'm looking for a good program. I really want a good literacy/ELA program (I teach middle school), and they all sound good. I just want one that teaches...

testing

I saw a suggestion somewhere that every politician should take the new tests before they can get into office. I laughed, but it's true. I'd love to see this with state politicians as well.

I...

Mourning a student

I didn't know where else to post this, and I really am not asking for help. I just wanted to just let this out...

Giving your all

I love teaching, but I have a family and they have to have priority. I spend a lot of my own money, and I've also given lots of my own time. But I no longer let it completely consume me like I did...

jobs before teaching

I had a paper route in middle school. Worked at McDonald's at 15, then at a delicatessen. I also worked part time at a turkey farm. In community college, I had the fun job of picking all the...

common core

I don't personally think there's anything wrong with the standards. I thought most people protested the federal control rather than state and local control, and the curriculum being created for it...

jobs at home

I have worked different jobs at home. Most recently, just a few years ago, I worked for my state's K12 virtual school. I actually think it is not bad. You really work more with parents than...

those magical moments

I just posted this on the middle school board, but those moments when your students just "get it." That is what I live for. They don't seem to happen often enough, but it's when they get excited...

Revision...fun??

Just had to share one of those moments that make teaching worth it...

My 7th graders just struggle with revision. They can edit and do some minor revision, but just weren't getting MY "vision"...

common core

There are things I like about it in general. But like someone else said, there seems to be even more emphasis on the testing. In my school, we are going to have to do our final exams at the end of...

Literacy Block

What we started this year, and it worked great, was a two-period block of reading/writing. So there isn't an English teacher and a reading teacher. We teach both!! We have 3 classes for 100...

No, we are the only 2 at our school. It's a small school. There are 2 per grade, basically. I was honest about it to the principal, although I took some responsibility for maybe reaching out more. ...

Un-collaborative (?) teacher

Sorry, wasn't sure how else to write this!

I am new to 7th grade. Our principal really wants all of the same-grade ELA teachers to be on the same page. We are coming up with our own curriculum...

I have taught kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, and now will be teaching 7th. I feel more of a pull to teach older grades. However, there are so many good things about the younger grades as well. Don't...

Unacceptable

I have 2 close friends, each married over 20 years, whose husbands "innocently" friended women (old girlfriend in one case, the other was an online meet), but began an emotional affair that...
