completely agree with TexTeacher

I have a student who is getting detailed assistance from the parent during distance learning. Essays are definitely not the child's. The child has NEVER written anything that follows structure, and...

population a little different

There are differences in fifth as compared with middle school.

Some thoughts off the top of my head:

1. They may slump in their seats and act sluggish, but get them up, around, and moving,...

School equipment is old-

I use my own laptop, and I bought the cheapest Ipevo ($99). With the software download, it worked great. Rather than using it as another camera in Microsoft Teams meetings, I use the software and...

Google Slides Cards

Our school has really gotten into Google Slides cards. Each person can write a note and "sign."

There are some cute free templates out there.

Very small school

We have a reading specialist who does small group pull-out for students needing remediation. She follows the reading recovery model.

In about January, an early admission kindergarten class starts...

Not hiring now

We aren't hiring now.

Retirees are being replaced with administrative interns (paid as Ts) returning to the classroom. They are, at most, two years out of the classroom, so they should be...

Try the public school.

Charter Schools are difficult because they have easier firing requirements than public (if there's a union).

You are right that you should have pushed back more on why they were firing you. I...

Parent- I've explained this...

We already know that students don't follow directions, but neither do many parents!

Argh- I've reviewed how to attach and turn in to Google Classroom with the students. I've posted directions for...

Definitely copyright issues

There are places you can get free, good backing music.

My favorite is https://freeplaymusic.com/

Here is what they say about educational use:

Freeplay’s music may be used in a presentation,...

No, no, no!

We fund our "social" with volunteer dues.

This is just aggravating to hear that this still goes on. Since teachers are primarily women, it smacks of the old days when men told us we had to wear...

Justifying own decisions

Ps have to assign classrooms. Sad to say, it sounds like your friend has become the scapegoat. It's easier to blame the teacher than to say, "I had to move someone, and you're it."

Education is...

Never used Bridges, but-

if a program is scripted for a certain amount of time, and you have two grade levels, something has to give. It is not humanly possible to devote the time that publishers think it will take for both...

I'm confused-

So, the students knew about it, but didn't "show up?" I would find out why before worrying about making it up to him.

Feeling lucky after reading OPs

My district is not pushing tons of video stuff. They just want us to keep in touch with our students and their families. I choose to do 30-45 minutes Monday through Thursday with each of my grade...

not officially grading

We were directed to "give feedback," but not "grade." Well, that's pretty vague. I decided to tell the students that I was keeping track, but that I would not be putting grades in the official...

Getting REALLY tired

i hear you all. it's very discouraging to spend hours on converting school to digital (on an almost daily basis), and then there are kids who don't care and don't show up.

Chinese invented pasta

I'd go Online to find a Chinese noodles recipe. They invented pasta. The Italians just went crazy with it after Marco Polo brought it back.

Agree with PPs- not your fight

If you just want something to back you up or check your instinct, paperrater.com is something that I've taught my students to use. It has a "Use for free" option and does plagiarism detection.

Cut-and-Paste

I think some of the proliferation of plagiarism is due to "writing" on a computer where it's just a cut-and-paste away. It's so easy, and they feel like they are writing when we know they are not.
