DRA levels

If I'm not mistaken, the levels are 3-4 at the beginning of grade 1, 10-12 mid-year, and 14-16 by the end of the year. Can someone verify that?

I'm thinking that the browsing baskets you're talking about are the ones used at the beginning of the year, before the kids know how to choose their own "just right" books. Is that right? About how...

I've read several books now that describe the mini lesson. In some books, it says that you begin with a read-aloud, and use that text to teach the strategy or whatever point you're making. In other...

shared reading

I suppose "shared reading" is defined in many ways, and used for many purposes. It's funny how I can use something so often and then not be able to exactly define it! :D So, I looked it up in...

I've only used Everyday Math for one year, so I hope I can remember correctly. I can't remember any lessons that use tangrams--maybe this was just an extra center she used or something? Nor can I...

respect?

I always try to have a rule that includes the word "respect." That pretty much covers what you're talking about! You'll want to do a lot of modeling so the children know what you mean about...

I don't do conferring the way Taberski does it. I travel the room with a clipboard. I have a page for each child, and each page is divided into sections so that I can jot notes on the page for that...
