makeup

I haven't worn makeup in 30 years. I developed sensitivities to a lot of fragrances & dyes, and it just wasn't worth the effort or money to deal with makeup. For the last 15 years or so I've worn...

Hmmm.

Money certainly drives some of this kind of stuff. Interns aren't paid as much, and are more likely to leave after becoming fully certified, so the bean-counters think that saves some money. It...

Fun Friday

Enjoyed waking up when I wanted to instead of setting an alarm. Made a quick grocery run--SO much easier to shop on a weekday morning than any other time! Ordered some stuff online from Walgreens....

how to know

I knew when I realized that I would be fine financially. The thoughts you shared here had been in my mind for two years, and nothing was getting better on my campus. So I started seriously looking at...

smart phone

I got my first smart phone for Christmas. It's an iPhone 6s Plus. I love it, love it, love it. I haven't even begun to learn all the things it can do, but I figure out a new thing every day or so. I...

Oh, sweetie, I'm so sorry this happened to your daughter, and I'm glad to hear that the surgery went well & the doctors are hopeful for her recovery. My daughter had a life-threatening health...

inner-city schools

Wavy, honey, I'm sorry you had a bad day, and it appears that your admin needs to up his game quite a bit. It's clear that you're frustrated, and you have every reason to be. Trying to teach in...

car

In November of 2014 I traded in my 17-year-old Nissan pickup truck. It still ran like a champ, with only occasional snags. Not sure how many miles it had, as the odometer had stopped working several...

Bless your heart!

You were right to inform your colleague that she needs to follow the law concerning ENL instead of LLI services. If you hadn't & the admins in charge of those matters in your district found out, they...

He's correct!

I know that administrators have the strange idea that students should be able to parrot out the objective. AP Statistics students are probably a pretty bright group, and they probably expect that an...

My first kiss, such as it was, was on the school bus when I was 5 years old and in 1st grade. He & I had quite a long-term relationship; it lasted the whole school year. We're Facebook friends now.

Glenn Frey

Well, this just sucks. The Eagles were responsible for so much great music, and Glenn Frey was a huge part of that. I'm at the age where their work provided the soundtrack to a lot of great times...

excellent book

I just finished The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom. It's one of the best book I've read in a long time. It's about the rather amazing life of a guitar player, including the fictional...

meditator!

It sounds as though you've thought things through. You will enjoy having time to spend with your parents, and the district paying for your medical insurance is a wonderful thing. It will be easy to...

Pbis

It doesn't seem effective to me. I appreciate the emphasis on having clearly stated, simple procedures (such as Go, Flush, Wash, Leave for the restroom) the emphasis on everybody who follows all the...

Bless your heart.

And bless his heart, too. It sounds as though this young man has an emotional disorder, and certainly a behavioral disorder. The evaluation needs to happen ASAP. You need to speak with whichever...

irritating words

I'm tired of hearing gifted used as a verb, as in, "We gifted the kids a couch for their new apartment." What's wrong with, "We gave the kids a couch"? I just don't get it.

I've had many students who knew far more about sex than they needed to in 5th & 6th grades. One strategy that worked (for the most part) was to have clear guidelines about what is "school business,"...
