My thoughts

I don't assign homework often; therefore, I don't assign homework so my students can't do it.

Here is what I observe with homework:


The kids who can do it usually do it.

Start a new routine on Monday

So the kids know it by Wednesday.

Have an opening activity...every day.
Have a mix of group and independent activities.
Include some teacher instruction, maybe some modeling.
Have a concluding...

Set expectations.

Be consistent and follow-through with consequences.

Be sure to have a routine in your classroom. For example, in my math class, I have the following routine:

Playing devil's advocate...

How long are your class periods? I just know that the Language Arts curriculum is huge, so maybe your principal is concerned about too much time spent with reading aloud? It makes a big difference...

I would definitely say something...

New moms are extra sensitive anyway... so I would definitely be sure to approach the topic. Otherwise it will always be out there...

Not enough.

This particular school year and last year, I have averaged about 4.5 to 5 hours of sleep every night. Just too much to do.

My patience and mental coherence both suffer greatly due to my sleep...
