Reading Street

Our corp. adopted Reading Street but we are only purchasing 1/2 of a classroom set. So we will have 7-10 books for a class of over 30 students. Anyone have any tips as to how to manage this?

Interactive notebooks

Here is a website where I got all of my ideas for interactive notebooks. I used them in SS and I was amazed at how excited they were to do this. Plus it really raised their level of thinking.

Vocab

I think the ultimate goal of vocabulary instruction is to have the students "own" the words. Giving them words for a test on Friday doesn't necessarily build their vocabulary...maybe just their...

Motivation

The biggest motivation I find in my class is recommending books. I read a lot and I will come to school and talk about a book and so many kids want to read that book! It is amazing how that works. ...

Wow! I can't imagine how my kids would have reacted to that prompt. You mentioned that you had "tons of prompts" - did you mean the ones for narrative/description? I would love to see some prompts...

I always do Bridge to Terabithia...great for figurative language and there are many themes that you can talk about.

I also read War with Grandpa....great for story elements especially plot...

There is a product by this name and it is wonderful! It gets everything from gum to crayon marks to left on stickers to labels and even grease marks! It is the best!

Can't teach without

My original thought was my glasses because I can't read a thing without them....and I am constantly laying them down somewhere.

BUT my two favorite "teacher things" are my bulletin board staple...
