I have two pairs of shoes I am wearing to sub. One pair is Dr. Scholl's (spelling?), a slip-on shoe with a rubber sole that I got from Wal-Mart. The other is a shoe made for nurses. Can't remember...

Go in as early as possible

In the elementary schools around here, the teachers eat in the cafeteria with the students, often at the same table. I was on a job a couple of weeks ago where I didn't get a break until 1 p.m. I...

How far ahead does Aesop show jobs?

I think that Aesop, at least where I am, is configured to only show jobs at the most three days out. I was talking to a teacher last week who said she had put a scheduled absence on Aesop for next...

Why not do that work?

I wouldn't mind at all doing that work if I were getting paid the same I would be for teaching. You probably would be building up a lot of "relationship" capital for doing such work, especially if...

I have been dreaming about your situation!

I have no idea why, but I woke up two times last night thinking of your situation and what you should do about it!

Since my brain must be interested in your dilemma, here are my thoughts:

You...

You sound like you're doing a good job

The problem seems to be no lesson plans. Is that acceptable in the district in which you sub? Where I sub the teachers are required to have detailed lesson plans. I can't imagine being required to...

Wow

What I find most interesting about this article is that subs receive benefits in Los Angeles! Wow! I would love to receive benefits.

Males have advantages in getting hired

Because the teaching profession is predominantly female, males have an advantage in getting hired. At least one researcher, whose test is used to determine possible candidates for urban school...

Check Aesop at odd times of the day

I was talking to one sub who said she got the job she was on that day at 3 a.m. She couldn't sleep so she went downstairs and looked at Aesop and found the job.

I subbed most of the past week and...

sub as much as you can in ec

It is amazing to me how different the EC jobs are. Some seem so easy; others seem like the toughest job in the school.

Often the EC teachers are like assistant teachers in a regular classroom,...

I agree. My worst experience so far was for a teacher whom the kids viewed as a friend. They actually told me I was having them do more work than she did and that I was trying to have more complex...

I have received no phone calls, but I am subbing for the third time and school has been in session six days. I check online a lot. I think lots of others are doing that. I contemplated one job for 30...

Ratio of teachers to subs?

Our district has a ratio of one sub for every two teachers. I thought this would make getting a sub job hopeless, but I've actually gotten more jobs than I would have thought possible for such a...

I have not been called that much by Aesop since starting in May as a sub. I have gotten most of my jobs online. I assumed Aesop was programmed to call the older subs first. But today I talked with a...
